Ryuichi Sakamoto – celebrated artist, composer, musician, and a long-time Krug Lover – has composed a musical masterpiece in tribute to the House of Krug, translating into music his tasting perceptions of three Krug Champagnes from the year 2008.
The fruit of a creative musical journey initiated in 2019, “Suite for Krug in 2008” is a symphony inspired by three Champagnes crafted around the harvest of an exceptional year: Krug Clos du Mesnil 2008, Krug 2008, and Krug Grande Cuvée 164ème Édition.
True to its refined maverick spirit, the House of Krug is once again transcending reality through new music pairing experiences. Building on the notion of food pairings, the House offers music pairings as an unexpected way to discover our Champagnes. With the firm conviction that music is a universal language that can trigger new sensations, Krug naturally partnered with Krug Lover, Ryuichi Sakamoto, to create a unique music pairing experience through an unprecedented symphonic composition. For over 18 months, he conversed with Krug Cellar Master Julie Cavil and sought inspiration in our cuvées, craftsmanship, and heritage.
Whether you know Ryuichi Sakamoto from the Academy Award-winning film The Revenant (2015), The Last Emperor (1987), for which he won the Oscar for Best Original Score, or from other film soundtracks for which he received Golden Globes, BAFTA awards and many more, he has been a monumental figure in the music and art world for over five decades. Further to his acclaimed compositions, he is a renowned pianist, producer, artist, activist and friend of the House.
Starting in September 2022, Krug will host 3 unforgettable Seeing Sound, Hearing Krug global events in unexpected settings in New York, London, and Tokyo. Guests will be enthralled in a multisensory immersion featuring a live orchestra of 36 musicians selected by Ryuichi Sakamoto. This immersive experience will then become a succession of 15 local events around the world where guests will enjoy the immersive symphonic experience through 3D music technology by our partner in sound Devialet.
